Javan Bonds Tribute
Sadly, we lost our friend and, for many of us, a mentor on November 5, 2023. Javan Bonds was a devoted advocate of Indy Writers around the world. He founded the FaceBook group Written Undead. A group with over 5,700 members to date. He was a gifted writer and a good friend to many of the administrators and authors in the group. I met Javan in 2019. I instantly felt a kinship with him since I’m the mother of a disabled son. During that time, my son had multiple health struggles, too, and my escape was writing about the undead….yes, that’s how I met Javan.
Javan encouraged, prodded, and demanded I get busy with writing. Publish that book, then write another. Time to publish an audiobook…on and on, he demanded effort from each of us. He would encourage us to work on books while he herded cats within the Written Undead group. Javan wrote more and more books despite becoming legally blind in 2019. He continued to publish audiobooks and live a full life with Patti Fry Rauccio and his family.
Like so many, I was shattered to hear of his passing. I struggled since then to come to terms with Javan not being there for all of us. We’ll miss his fussing, cussing, and making demands of us in the most colorful of languages. We will all try to meet his expectations.
Javan has these words of wisdom to offer for others stricken by a life-shortening illness. “Live your life. Light your candle on both ends and let it burn. It may go out faster, but it will be brighter than some who live much longer.”
We kept an eye on his flame. It burned bright as a star for way too short of a time.

Javan Bonds was a good friend of mine and an even better friend to indie authors in the zombie post apocalypse genre.
